Holiday parks in Derbyshire make great bases for exploring the Peak District, England’s first national park. Accommodation-wise, there’s a choice of camping, caravans, cottages or apartments, in a variety of rural spots. You can wake up surrounded by open countryside, then head out on a walk. The starting points are often right on your doorstep, so you can join the Tissington Trail, hike up Bamford Edge, or take in the views on the Mam Tor ridge walk.
The views aren’t the only good-looking thing about Derbyshire either. The towns are handsome, too. Bakewell and Buxton are two of the favourites, thanks to their Georgian and Victorian architecture, or you’ve got bigger Matlock with its thermal waters, cable cars and farm park. And the National Trust had a field day here, so there are tonnes of grand properties to tour on rainy days, like Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall and Calke Abbey.

Look inside one of the country’s finest stately homes. Pride and Prejudice was filmed here and Pemberley was allegedly based on Chatsworth, as Austen was staying close to Bakewell when she wrote the novel. Tour over 25 rooms, then let the kids blow off steam in the farmyard and playground.
Bakewell’s the biggest town in the Peak District National Park. Its stone buildings, Medieval arched bridge and pretty courtyards are worth a wander. What’s more, you can’t leave without trying a traditional Bakewell pudding from one of the bakeries.
