Eyemouth sits a mere five miles north of the border with England, in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland. Holiday parks in Eyemouth put you right on the beach. Dogs are allowed all year round on Eyemouth Beach. And, at low tide, youngsters can explore the rock pools. And, it wouldn’t be a British seaside town without an amusement arcade. Eyemouth’s comes with a mini bowling alley, too.
History is a big part of this dinky Berwickshire town. Fishing boats still bob in the natural harbour, where friendly seals are regular visitors. And, despite being small, there are a couple of museums to explore. Eyemouth Museum teaches visitors about the town’s fishing and farming history, including the tragic Eyemouth Disaster of 1881. Berwickshire Marine Reserve has photography exhibits and artefacts for those wanting to learn about marine life. And, at nearby Gunsgreen House, you can wander the cellars and passageways used to store tobacco and brandy by smuggler John Nisbet.

This is a high-speed, high-adrenaline way to see the beautiful Berwickshire coastline. You’ll be whisked by speedboat along the shore, checking out caves used by smugglers as you go. There’s also a chance of spotting dolphins, whales and seals.
The last part of the Berwickshire Coastal Path runs from Eyemouth down across the border to Berwick-upon-Tweed. And it’s a pretty stretch with eye-widening views of cliffs, beaches and an old fort. It makes for a scenic dog walk with a difference.
