Northumberland has the longest surviving stretch of Hadrian’s Wall. It continues across the country to Bowness-on-Solway, in Cumbria, on the west coast. Along the way, you can take in the ruins of forts and temples, as well as views of the rolling countryside.

This dramatic beach has a scenic outlook, with Bamburgh Castle in sight. It’s no wonder it’s regularly named the nation’s favourite. Plus, 10 minutes’ walk inland, The Potted Lobster café is a favourite for fresh seafood, like lobster, squid and oysters.
